Slow Cooked Hungarian Goulash



This goulash is perfect for a cold winters night. It is rich and hearty and pairs perfectly with creamy mash.

Slow Cooked Hungarian Goulash
Serves 6-8
  • 1.2kg casserole beef cubed
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 brown onion chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves crushed
  • 1 red capsicum cubed
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 fresh tomatoes chopped
  • Salt and pepper for seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons sweet paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons vegeta beef stock powder
  • 3 carrots peeled and sliced into half moons
  • 3 teaspoons cornflour disolved in a small amount of water

1. Dust beef in flour and fry in a small amount of oil in batches. Add to slow cooker.
2. Add all the other ingredients to slow cooker (besides the cornflour) and season well with salt and pepper. Stir. Cook on low for 6-8 hours (depending on your slow cooker).
3. Stir in cornflour mix half an hour before cooking time is up. Remove bay leaves and serve with mash, pasta or rice.
